75 years of passion: For an invisible resource

The story of TROX began with a simple idea: creating better air for people. Since 1951, TROX has developed solutions for a resource that cannot be seen, yet defines every indoor environment. What started as a small workshop in Neukirchen-Vluyn has grown into a company helping shape buildings around the world. One belief has remained unchanged: better air creates better spaces for people.

75 YEARS OF TROX AT A GLANCE

Our milestones

  • Founded: 1951
  • Headquarters: Neukirchen-Vluyn, Germany
  • Specialisation: Air handling and climate control systems
  • Today: An international systems provider

»From a ventilation grille manufacturer to a systems provider. The idea behind it has remained the same: better air for people.«

AN INVISIBLE RESOURCE

Since 1951, TROX has focused on a resource that cannot be seen, yet influences every indoor environment: air.

In a small production hall, founders Heinrich and Friedrich Trox, together with a team of seven employees, manufactured the company’s first air grilles. Today, TROX teams around the world work to make indoor spaces healthier, safer and more comfortable. Individual components evolved into integrated systems, step by step, driven by a deeper understanding of buildings and their requirements.

75 YEARS OF PROGRESS FROM PIONEER TO SYSTEMS PROVIDER

1951–1959
THE FOUNDING YEARS

Seven employees. One small production hall. The first air grilles.

In 1956, TROX exceeded annual revenue of one million for the first time. A visit to the United States by Heinrich Trox in 1959 provided important inspiration for industrial-scale production. During the same period, Heinz and Klaus Trox joined the company and helped shape its next stage of development.

1960–1969
EUROPEAN EXPANSION

TROX broadened its portfolio and entered new markets. The first subsidiaries were established in the United Kingdom and other European countries. Through technical innovation and a continuously expanding product portfolio, TROX became the market leader in Germany. A dedicated research and development centre further strengthened the company's innovation capability.

1970–1979
STEPPING ONTO THE GLOBAL STAGE

Following the death of Heinrich Trox, Heinz Trox consistently advanced the company's international expansion.

With new facilities in South Africa and Brazil, TROX continued to expand its global manufacturing footprint. At the same time, the headquarters in Neukirchen-Vluyn evolved through investment in infrastructure and working conditions.

1980–1989
INNOVATION DRIVES GROWTH

New technologies, expansion into international markets including Asia, and around 160 patents characterised this decade. TROX continued to grow while strengthening its engineering expertise worldwide.

The workforce expanded to more than 2,000 employees. New manufacturing facilities and a larger corporate headquarters supported the company's next phase of growth. Following the death of his brother Klaus, Heinz Trox continued to lead the business and drive its international development.

1990–1999
BUILDING A LASTING FOUNDATION

The establishment of the Heinz-Trox Foundation in 1991 created a long-term basis for scientific, social and cultural engagement.

At the same time, the independence of TROX as a privately owned company was secured for the future.

2000–2009
GROWING INTERNATIONALLY

TROX further expanded its global presence while strengthening expertise in research, development and fire protection.

Strategic acquisitions and new technologies opened up additional markets, including decentralised ventilation systems. In 2006, Heinz Trox became the sole owner of TROX GmbH.

2010–2019
BECOMING A SYSTEMS PROVIDER

TROX evolved from a component specialist into a systems provider.

Investments such as the X-CUBE production facility enabled the delivery of complete air conditioning systems. Software solutions, digital technologies and integrated services expanded the portfolio.

Following the death of Heinz Trox in 2015, Udo Jung and Thomas Mosbacher jointly assumed responsibility for the continued development of the company.

Since 2020
SHAPING THE FUTURE

Building automation, international growth, sustainability, health and climate protection define the next stage of development.

Today, TROX combines ventilation technology, building automation and digital solutions. The objective remains unchanged: to make buildings safer, more energy efficient and more comfortable.

»The individual is our benchmark, and their wellbeing our objective.«

Heinz Trox, former Managing Director of TROX

RESPONSIBILITY FOR GENERATIONS

Long-term success is built on the belief that economic performance and social responsibility belong together.

The creation of the Heinz-Trox Foundation established a lasting framework that supports research, promotes social initiatives and encourages long-term thinking.

This approach continues to shape decisions, investments and development activities today. Decisions are made not for the next quarter, but for future generations.

75 YEARS OF HISTORY.
THE NEXT CHAPTERS ARE BEING WRITTEN NOW.

Healthy indoor air is becoming increasingly important around the world.

At the same time, expectations for energy efficiency, automation and occupant comfort continue to grow. That is why TROX continues to develop systems that adapt to the changing requirements of modern buildings. Not to make technology more visible, but to ensure it performs reliably every day.

In offices. In hospitals. In schools. In industrial buildings.

Where people experience air every day.
